Origins 2019

How It All
Started

Lambert iGEM was founded through the vision of the Bhamla Lab at Georgia Tech and Mark Standeven, who saw the potential for high school students to participate in world-class synthetic biology research. Their combined support launched one of the few American high school iGEM teams.

Dr. Saad Bhamla's lab at Georgia Tech provided the scientific foundation, mentorship, and lab access that made it possible for high schoolers to compete alongside university teams from around the world. Mark Standeven championed the program within the school system, securing the institutional support needed to make it a reality.
